the breadwinner has a culture of both love & hate, peace & war. Before the taliban, afghanistan was peacefull & beuatiful, after it has violent & horrible. i don't relate to the culture.
@ Everyone - Think of the culture of Afghanistan and the Taliban. What was it like? How are men treated? How are women treated? Are they treated equally? Please make sure that you reply to my comments and give your opinions. Culture is a major topic of this novel.
(re-done) Afghanistan used to be very well kept, peaceful, and very beautiful. Men and women are not treated the same anymore, the women cannot go outside without a burqua and an escort by a man. But, the men can do basically whatever they want whenever they want without getting punished, and the women can't go into shops at all even escorted by a man, I think this type of culture is horrible! They do absolutly horrible things to theives, I don't know how they even got that idea! I cannot relate to this culture.
Afghanistan used to be safe and women could walk the streets alone, they also didn't have to cover there faces. Education was aloud, children sat in a class room not afraid one day they couldn't learn anymore, thinking that they would only have four walls surrounding them. But that all changed when the Taliban's came Afghanistan had got bombed. Women did have to cover there faces, they were not outside without a man beside there side. Men and women got treated differently, men had more privileged than women. It wasn't fair at all and they should protest against it!
The Breadwinner does not talk much about culture and in general I cannot relate to alot of other cultures. (sorry) :)
